The Red River Army Depot provides maintenance support for the Army and is located near Texarkana, Texas. The depots mission includes repairing MRAPs, and Letterkenny Army Depot took over some of the missile systems previously assigned to the depot. Red River Army Depot covers 1,000,000 square feet and was initially established as an ammunition storage facility. Red River Army Depotís mission is to offer maintenance support for all tactical systems in ground combat worldwide. There is no on-post housing at Red River Depot, but many rental options are available in nearby communities. Red River Army Depot has several cottages and cabins for rent along Elliot Lake, which is located along the southeast corner of the depot. Homes for rent or sale are available in nearby cities.
Red River Army Depot shares a border with the government-owned Lone Star Army Ammunition Plant. The depot covers over 36,000 acres which makes it one of the largest maintenance and supply depots in the U.S. Army Material Command. The Defense Base Closure and Realignment Act of 1990 moved all the maintenance missions except the BFVs and the Launch Rocket Systems to Anniston Army Depot. Red River Army Depot is located close to Fort Hood which allows it to provide efficient logistics support to Army customers and Red River Army Depot became one of the most cost effective and productive Army depots in the Army. Although the BRAC initiative of 2005 has limited the maintenance capabilities of Red River Army Depot, the depot still operates as the center for Patriot and Hawk missile recertification.
